The Ethiopian Christmas has just pass this last Jan 7th and most people went to the church then home with family and friends and almost no one on the streets. The night before Christmas it seem most of the neighborhood was up all night. I could hear lots of goats and cows and sheep crying out for their friends as they waited in strange yards of my neighbors for the morning when all were killed at sunrise for the feast of Christmas day.

Pressure Sounds is really coming into it’s own in the re-issue market, the imagination and attention to detail of their reissues in the last year or so has really put the competition (or whats left of it) to shame.
Things look to get even better in 2009 with a release that chronicles the mid 70’s spat between I Roy and Prince Jazzbo called Once Upon A Time At King Tubby’s . None of the tunes are mad rare but this is a superb concept and even if you’ve got the tunes already you’ll want to pick up a copy of this.
After nine months of controversial litigation, the sensational stage performer Tewodros Kassahun, more popularly known as Teddy-Afro, was last Friday, December 5, 2008, sentenced to six years imprisonment and an 18,000 Br fine.
A question posed to me by Krazy recently asked me if i was aware that not all reggae involved rasta.
Ofcourse we all know reggae was born out of musical innovation and traditional/contempory influences at the time of its genisis in jamaica in the late 60’s. Roots reggae held sway until the early 80’s when dancehall ushered in a youthful rebellion. the youth wanting to distinguish themselves from the rasta infused music of their elders that had come before them used slackness as their distinction. but without the influence of the rastafarian inspired classic roots reggae period there would have been nothing to drive the music to evole from what it had been to what became. Same goes for the digital revolution in reggae in the mid 80’s which spawned ragga and the like. It seems to me Reggae in all its forms is at its heart a spiritual music. even as it moves farther away from its rasta roots. what do you the reader think?

The Best of Dennis Brown: The Niney Years, Released 11/04/2008

He had scored with his own “Blood and Fire” which was song of the year in 1972, and was producing and arranging for both Bunny Lee and Joe Gibbs. But it was his work with Dennis Brown that would catapult both he and Dennis truly into the limelight.

Greetings All Rasta’s living in Australia!
Ethiopia’s prime minister and rastainoz sets the story strait.
One of the major obstacles holding back the Ethiopian tourist industry is the way the out side press has over the years painted Ethiopia in one color since Live Aid. It may have brought some good at the time but has proved to be a curse to Ethiopia development.
You take the high road and I will take the low road:
In Ethiopia’s very long past you had the high land people and the low land people, The high land people were the traditional rulers of Ethiopia and because they lived in the high lands where it is colder they also had the benefits of a healthier life style with no malaria carrying misquotes and water bore bacteria’s that live in the warmer low land regions of Ethiopia.
In your time of trouble Rasta, who you gonna turn to?
You will want for the Lord Jah Rastafari to protect you, will he be there for you……?
As babylon the scourge of the Rastafarian seeps ever deeper into the psychi. As more and more of the Rastas humble living is usurped by the distrations of ego and modern life, what will become of Jah’s chosen few.
In this hustle and bustle of modern life it appears some rasta’s have lost their way.

In OZ you will find all colours of dreads in reggae, you have purple dreads, and green dreads, and some colours I am not sure of. Dreads don’t only belong to Rasta’s anymore or even the the name Rastafari as their’s a hard rock band called, ‘Rastafarian Stage Divers’ to lesbian reggae bands and a band with a transvestite who is half dread and half women, I mean the hair styes as he turned his head side to side on stage.

A lovely little poem by a lovely sister of the Twelve Tribes of Israel Australia. Where ever you are Asher we pray your well.
“But the level of shock around what happened hasn’t diminished. His passing stopped the whole nation. He has an enormous presence culturally and I think although South African audiences had overlooked him in a way in recent times, his stature is undeniable. Not a day goes by without me hearing his music. It was a great privilege to work with someone like him.”
